Frequently Asked Questions

From mid-February through November, we do offer the Segway tours every day. In January and February, please call for available days and times. Hour rides are offered Friday through Sunday at 10:00 a.m. only. Typical days have tours beginning at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and sometimes at 4:00 p.m.

All our Segway tours leave from our conveniently located Uptown Charlotte location, across the street from the TICKET-ENTRANCE SIDE of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The physical address is 401 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (However, some GPS and databases still list East MLK, Blvd. as East SECOND (2nd) Street., so check for returns on 401 E. 2nd St. if you have trouble finding us.) Our office is right there in the one building that is across from the NASCAR Museum - the AME Zion Building. You should see a sign and some activity along the front of our building. Please use the front entrance. Our office is located in the back right corner of the first floor.

YES, it's fun for all ages, although we require our tour participants to be 14 years or older... and for participants under 18, they MUST be with a parent or responsible party 21 y/o or older AND have a signed waiver from a parent. Unfortunately we DO have some weight restrictions, per the actual SEGWAY company. Participants need to be at least 100 lbs. (so that the computer in the base can read and respond to your movements) and no more than 260 lbs.

Even YOU can do this! It's relatively easy to learn to ride and SAFE for your crew if you follow directions. It' a fun and great way to see the city from the sidewalks. Training is usually a short and simple process. Our Segway tour is fun for “OLDER” ones, too!! Many of our tour participants are 55+ -- we’ve even had folks in their 70' and 80' ride!

Most people have the hang of it within in 5- 10 minutes. One of our trained guides will instruct you one-on-one and stay with you until you feel confident and ready to go. For your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you listen CAREFULLY and follow ALL instructions.

All of our Segway rides/tours are with a guide, and most of the tour route is along the sidewalks of Uptown Charlotte. We do ask that all our participants be able to walk a substantial distance unaided, and be able to go up and down stairs unaided. We are NOT able to accommodate riders who have neurological impairments or other medical conditions that would limit their ability to ride safely and respond quickly to conditions that may arise while they are on their Segway.

Segways can go rather FAST…up to 12 mph. BUT you won’t be going anywhere near that fast on the tour, and (bummer) if we seeing you allowing the little “speed demon” in you take over…well our guide may have to put your Segway in SAFETY MODE. We surely don’t want you to get carried away and get injured (or injure others) or have to pay us for a very expensive piece of machinery. (Smile!)

It takes a good bit of stamina for this activity. You'll need the energy (and the food fuel) to stand for the duration of the tour. We'll need you to wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes.

CNCT is the real deal. We are a REAL licensed, insured, registered LLC with actual offices in the city and employees who have led 100's of tours. We are a member of Center City Partners and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

We require that all our participants sign a release/liability waiver before beginning their training, as well as sign a “declaration of fitness” statement. We REQUIRE that you wear a helmet and STAY WITH YOUR GROUP throughout the entire tour.

YES, we can customize a tour and work with your schedule to plan a party or a group event. Ideally we like to keep tour events to a maximum of 8 riders, but we have the ability to plan for up to 20 participants. Call us for available times and prices.

Please wear only closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) and ladies, we definitely advise shoes with little to no heel. On Spring and Fall days, we recommend that you layer up just in case the sun bears down or the wind picks up. We also ask that you remove all caps during the tour so that your helmet is situated right on your head. And sunglasses are always a good idea on most days.

Charlotte NC Tours DOES NOT advise this activity for pregnant women, not even in their first trimester. We are NOT able to accommodate riders who have neurological impairments or other medical conditions that would limit their ability to ride safely and respond quickly to conditions that may arise while they are on their Segway

We DO NOT allow riders who are under the influence of any illegal substance or alcohol on our Segways. AND if we smell it, suspect it, or otherwise feel that a rider's judgment is impaired due to the aforementioned, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL YOUR PARTY'S RESERVATION UPON ARRIVAL OR END THE TOUR AT ANY POINT WITH NO REFUND TO THE PARTICIPANT NOR TO ANYONE IN THE PARTICIPANT'S PARTY.

We DO NOT rent out our Segways to individuals or groups for their own use. We ONLY do GUIDED rides and tours. Now, if you are a large well-established local company or a familiar corporation with deep pockets, we can talk about some short-term lease arrangements.

If it rains or is raining or looks as though it is likely to be raining at the time of your tour, we will contact you to notify you of the cancellation. (Feel free to call us though and check—we won't mind!) In some cases, we will hopefully be able to reschedule your tour.

YES, we do tours in HOT and COLD weather. We ask that on cooler/cold days that you layer up and wear gloves and perhaps a scarf. The movement on a Segway can create a little wind chill factor for you, so a wind-proof insulated jacket is best (unless you're from Canada or North Dakota… and in that case a bad winter day in Charlotte's gonna feel like springtime to you.) On HOT days, we try to find the shady routes as much as possible, and we provide participants with cold bottled water. You'll want to dress in light layers and shorts…but please leave your sandals or flip-flops at the hotel or in your trunk.  For safety, we still advise only closed-toed shoes.

We take cash and credit cards as a form of payment (VISA/Mastercard). Unless you are making a reservation for a group of 5 or more, you pay at the time of the tour (groups of 5 or more require a deposit). So if it happens to rain the day of your tour, there's no refund to worry about. You can contact us if it looks like it may rain the day of your tour to see if there is a rain-delay or make another reservation. For group reservations of 5 or more, we take a $50 deposit that is ONLY refundable if you call at least 24 hrs. before your scheduled tour to cancel. Full refund in case of rain.

We can at times accommodate some parking in the lot at our office ON WEEKDAYS ONLY. Please ask about parking restrictions when you call to make your weekday Segway tour reservations. We have no control over parking in our building's parking lot on the weekends. You are welcome to park in the parking lot that surrounds our uptown location, but there is a additional $5.00 fee (for the day) on most Saturdays and Sundays. There are other public parking lots and garages within a block or two of our office that charge $10.00 or less. Parking fees may be higher in our lot and in other lots on days when special events are being held in Uptown Charlotte.

YES! YES! YES! You WILL have FUN!! More fun that you expect! We may even have to pry the Segway out of your hands at the end of the tour. But you can just do it again another day… maybe bring along more friends!
